learning blox

The old path is changing.

School, then university, then a job. AI is changing that path, and fast. So families are taking charge of how their children learn.

Opblox is a new way to unschool.

No year groups. Each child learns at their own pace, subject by subject. Ahead in maths, steady in English? That's exactly how it should be.

One child. Six subjects. Six different heights. Each block is one thing learned. The dashed band is where a year group would put them.

Example
  • Stacked learned and remembered
  • Settling waiting for a review
  • Learning now
  • Year group where school would put them

We're building Opblox for our own two children first. Now we're opening the door to families who think the same way.

Why we started

A new path for a new world.

  • School, then university, then a job. That was the deal.
  • Nobody knows exactly what comes next. That's fine.
  • Children who can think, make, explain and work with others will do well.
  • So we're taking charge of how our children learn. Calmly, one block at a time.

The old path

  1. School
  2. University
  3. A job for life

The path we're building

  1. Learn at your pace
  2. Make real things
  3. Find your people

How it works

Learning that stacks up.

Blocks. Stacked. Reviewed. Free.

Learning comes in small blocks. Each one is a single thing to learn, like "Expand single brackets".

  1. 01

    Learn it

Work through a block in short sessions of about an hour.

  2. 02

    Stack it

Pass the check, and the block joins their stack.

  3. 03

    Review it

It comes back at 2, 4, 8 and 16 weeks. Only what's remembered stays stacked.

  4. 04

    Free time

Done for the day? The rest of the day is for projects.

How the blocks work, and the curricula they map to

The day

An hour or two. Then the day is theirs.

  • About an hour or two of focused blocks a day.
  • Then the rest of the day is free.
  • Free for building, making, playing and exploring.
  • Building
  • Sport
  • Making music
  • Exploring outside
  • Reading for fun

The heart of it

Drawn in, not pushed in.

  • Learning lasts when children are pulled in by curiosity.
  • Not pushed in by a timetable.
  • So every stack starts from something children already care about.
  • Why does a free kick curl?leads toSCIENCE forces, speed and spin
  • How do muscles actually move you?leads toSCIENCE muscles pull, never push
  • What did people eat 5,000 years ago?leads toHISTORY one human story, told through food
  • Why is your town where it is?leads toGEOGRAPHY rivers, land and where people build
  • How do you build a beat?leads toMUSIC rhythm, and the maths inside it
  • How do you make someone see what you mean?leads toENGLISH clear, exact writing

The method behind it

The pull-in approach, in five parts.

  1. 01 Own pace, tracked but not held
  2. 02 Pulled in, not pushed
  3. 03 Done means remembered
  4. 04 Parents see it
  5. 05 Parents talk about it
See the pull-in approach

Ownership

Children own it. Parents steer it.

For children

  • Their pace. Not the class's pace.
  • Their interests lead the way in.
  • Their stack to build, block by block.
  • No leaderboards. No daily streaks. No racing.

For parents

  • Opblox suggests the next few blocks. You decide.
  • You see what's really learned, not just time spent.
  • You set the shape of the day.
  • Money never buys progress.

The whole picture

Four parts of a whole education.

Blocks are where it starts. A full education needs more.

  • Education

Blocks at their own pace, subject by subject. Maths, English and science are mapped to England's national curriculum and checked against US and IB standards.

    Being built nowEducation
  • Sport

Training with local sports clubs, as our partners.

    Coming soonSport
  • Projects

Small groups build something together, then pitch it at a demo day.

    In progressProjects
  • Community

Local groups where children make friends who think like them.

    Coming soonCommunity
Growing well

Soft skills and emotional growth run through all four. Confidence, friendship, handling setbacks, speaking up. Led by Atiya.

The big idea

Put them together, and families can run school themselves.

  • Academics at their own pace.
  • Sport with local clubs.
  • Projects with friends.
  • A community to belong to.

That's what we mean by democratising schooling.

Coming soon

Community

Local groups and demo days.

Learning at your own pace. Projects. A real local community. Together, that's a new way to unschool.

  1. Academics first Being built now

The blocks, at each child's own pace.

  2. Local groups Coming soon

We'll partner with local sports clubs to host groups and meetups, where children share ideas and projects.

  3. Demo days Coming soon

Finished a project? Come and show it, and meet other children who love building things.

Meetups are for families. Parents come too, every time.

Coming later: project kits. Things to grow, build and test at home that feed the projects. Kits support learning. They never buy progress.
